What is the difference between accessing the EL mailarchive instance via the Control Panel and using the admin user account created when the instance was set up?
Access via the Control Panel can be achieved using the ‘Open Instance’ function. When this is done, the EL mailarchive client (on Windows machines only) connects, and the $archiveadmin user is used to log in. This is primarily the access method for resellers, who do not have access to any archives, cannot run searches, and do not see all the options in the compliance settings.
Excerpt from the MailStore manufacturer’s documentation:
"No matter whether logging on to an instance as the customer's administrator or as service provider via service provider archive access, the available functions of the MailStore Client are nearly the same. Only accessing and or modifying the archive content (e.g. creating folders, deleting messages,..) is prohibited for the $archiveadmin user. "
MSP access via $archiveadmin allows mail archive users to be created and/or synchronised with a directory service, and also enables archiving profiles and jobs to be set up for the customer.
Control Panel:
The admin user has full rights:
This user is created during instance setup. The login details should be recorded securely. However, the reseller can reset the password in the instance’s properties in the Control Panel by clicking the ‘Reset admin password’ button.
With EL mailarchive, you can quickly set up legally compliant archiving from the cloud – it’s simple, requires no hardware investment and is fully managed via our intuitive web interface.
